Gene's picAccording to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Yamaha has recalled one of its 2014 off-road motorcycles. The motorcycle’s drive chain can detach, causing the rider to lose control of the bike and crash. This recall involves two-wheeled 2014 Yamaha competition off-road motorcycles with model numbers YZ250FEL, YZ250FEW, YZ450FEL and YZ450FEW. YZ250F or YZ450F and 250 or 450 is printed on the left and right side panels of the motorcycles. The motorcycles are blue and white, or red and white. The VIN number is stamped on the frame at the steering stem. The letter E in the 10th position of the VIN number indicates that the unit was made in the 2014 model year. Additionally, the motorcycles were sold by Yamaha dealers nationwide from December 2013 through January 2014 for $7500 and $8500.

There have been no injuries reported due to this defect, but consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled off-road motorcycles. If you won one of the recalled bikes, you should contact a local Yamaha dealer to have the defective drive chain repaired for free.
