Kara Larsen


Kara brings several years of significant inhouse counsel experience to the Firm, most recently serving as Assistant Counsel at Medco Health Solutions, Inc, which had been the largest prescription benefit management company in the country prior to its acquisition by Express Scripts.  Having spent the last seven years as inhouse counsel, Kara is keenly aware of the cost pressures and need for efficiencies in the delivery of top-notch legal services. Kara started her law career at the international firm of Latham & Watkins, LLP, one of the largest law firms in the country, where she was an associate in the litigation department in both the New York and New Jersey offices.  While at Latham & Watkins, Kara’s clients included several Fortune 500 companies, for whom she defended a variety of claims including consumer fraud actions, breach of contract claims, and product liability actions.

At Medco Health Solutions, Kara was instrumental in defending the company against claims for breach of contract and fiduciary duty, professional liability, and unfair competition, as well as disputes under procurement law.  Kara’s position at Medco allowed her the opportunity to partner with executive management to provide practical and strategic legal and business advice on all aspects of the company’s operations.  Kara also assisted the company in a variety of regulatory matters involving efforts by state governments to recoup Medicaid funds and actions by long-term care pharmacies to receive payment under Medicare Part D.  While at Medco, Kara also counseled the company in matters involving fraud, waste, and abuse, privacy and compliance matters involving HIPAA, and business matters such as data licensing and document retention.
